limp mode

i was driving my new truck with kids the other day ,my abs light come on od light flashed then truck would not shift to i think 2nd ,pulled over kids jumped in the box and horn signaled every car as i called mecanic he said ''great''happily,i hr from home he said drive home closer the better ,had half can seafoam in toolbox ,added this ran through gears a couple mins crossed fingers and drove home one hard shift and away we went purred all the way home and has not done it again ,researched possible bad vss tomorrow i will change fluid and clean sensor on diff, oris my tranny telling me somthing any thoughts or does this make sense , also new at the diesel 7.3di any words of insight ....

What tranny is in it? Is the motor completely stock?

Ok I had the same problem with my E4OD years ago. Check the wiring that plugs into the solenoid pack in the tranny. I put headers on my truck but didn't realise this wiring group was actually resting on the back header tube and it had melted through the casing and through the wire cover till the wires were arcing out on the header tube. It's just a thought but takes all of a minute to check

i will check out in mourning ,also my speedo gauge was dropping eraticly before this happend which led me to vss .thanks will take a boo...

VSS sounds exactly right by your description. nice when 2 or 3 symptoms all point in the same direction.

could easily be a wiring issue where the wiring runs .

I changed trans/fluid checked all wiring to and from tranny it all looked okay removed vss on top of diff cleaned it sprayed little 3n1 on it put it back ,speedo was still jumpy but it ran good,ithink i will replace it ,abs light still on hopeing it would have cleared,still trying tolocate abs sensor or does it mean a few things...

just had another thought would spray couse it to jump ,being electrical hmmm ....not sure.

Since it's a 94 it's OBD1. You can pick up a scanner pretty cheap for them
