truck shuts off when put in gear 7.3 auto

hi all! 2002 f350 7.3 auto. truck runs well and is essentially stock. the past few days it shuts off occasionally when put in gear. it can be from park to drive, neutral to reverse, or neutral to drive. i say shuts off rather than stalls because it doesn't sputter. it stops! tach drops to zero instantly! i can click it into neutral, start it, then pop it into gear. it may stop again, it may run. there are no diagnostic or warning lights... any ideas?

not half as sorry as i am, mate. i really quite like this truck. even when it grows a "personality" and decides to stop from time to time.

If it were, wouldn't it jump pretty hard like trying to stick a manual into gear without using the clutch? I've never had it done, but it would seem like that would happen.

Sounds electronic to me. We have a '97 F250 7.3L auto here on the farm, and it unlocks the TC and basically drops to an idle whenever you hit the brakes, regardless of what RPM the engine was at. Its kinda annoying when hauling a trailer and you're slowing down. Might be somewhat related. LR

that was a thought, but yes... if it were locked the truck would lurch like mad and stall. this thing just dies. i'm leaning to the mlp switch since it only happens when gears are changed.

ps - no codes.

the mlp is only $70 so i popped one in tonight. install took a solid 10 minutes. took it out for about 45 minutes tonight without issue. wil be driving all day tomorrow so we'll know by dinner tomorrow. fingers crossed.
