A/C problem

i was just wondering what could be wrong with my ac you can have the air on but its not cold so looked at the compressor and it not even working but its moving freely but its not kicking in i was just wondering if it could be a relay or anything like that your help would be great thank you Brian

The system may be empty or low. Although I hesitate to suggest this, try pulling the high pressure switch plug usually located on or near the dryer. Test for voltage. One wire should have +12VDC. If so, jumper the plug just to see if the compressor clutch engages. Don't leave it on for an extended amount of time. You should only need 1 or 2 seconds. If it engages, see your local air conditioning technician. Also, if you have a UV light, look around the AC components for UV dye that looks like it leaked out of somewhere. Usually a spray or drip pattern.
