Anybody here have any sucess with an aftermarket header for the 5.4 f150 4x4 supercab? i need to change the passenger side manifold (leaking) and know it is a fairly easy fix but am thinking about a set of headers if I am in there anyway......

Ford should have a TSB out for the right side manifold but they don't. Don't waste your time with shorties unless you like the look. You won't see significant performance gains and you still have to go through all the work. If you do decided to pull the manifold off and replace the gasket, stay with OEM Ford gaskets and before you re-install, you need to flat grind the manifold. I believe Ford has a defect that causes the firewall outlet to warp. Put a straight edge along the cleaned mating faces and you will probably find that the first 3 ports are relatively flat and then the front portion of the rear exhaust port is about 1/8" low. It took me 2 hours of flat filing to get the rear exhaust port re-aligned with the other surfaces.

Taking the manifold to a machine shop would be alot simpler but I am a cheap ass

You can get at all of the manifold bolts if you pull the tire off and have a series of extensions and swivle joints at your disposal. Before you start, spray all the manifold bolts with WD-40 the day before you start, but don't drive the truck or you will just evaporate all the fluid.

i wouldnt do shorties either. not worth the effort for the gain. get some longtube headers.

I used obx which is a very good knockoff of a very good product already.

as sayed above. you will need the ford oem gaskets as they are the best. i used locking header bolts. i did it all in my garage and it was failry easy.

then i drove it to the exhaust shop for them to connect it to my magnaflow.

it was like a nascar thou with straight headers driving to the shop.

Many many lightning guys running the obx with no problemos. i have had mine for 3 years in the west weather and they still look great.

Really? Its the Internet take it easy.
