Bad whining noise in the rear dif

It has a whining noise in the rear end. I thought it was a wheel hub but I had them checked my mechanic said that they are fine. But he put it on the hoist and found that the whining and grinding noise was in the rear end.He said that he had to take the axle out and replace the bearings. When you accelerate its fine then when you decelerate it starts. Has anyone ever hurd of that or experinced that can you please let me know. Thanks

A howl or whine during acceleration over a small or large speed range is usually caused by worn ring and pinion gears or improper gear set up.
Rumbling or whirring at speeds over about 20 mph/40 km can be caused by worn carrier bearings. The noise may change while turning.

Just some food for thought if you ever thought about regearing the truck this is the time to do it while its apart

a common cause of this kind of noise at low speeds is pinion bearings,is the pinion yoke loose?(where the driveshaft bolts on)

a moments silence for the shelbyx,i hope her new owner enjoys as much.
