4.6l sounds like an exhaust leak

I have a 2002 F150 with a 4.6L and 170 000 kms. at idle it seems quiet however when i am driving i hear what sounds like an exhuast leak. when i am under the hood and hold the motor at 2000 rpm there is a noise coming from the head, a slapping or ticking noise. i am useing 5W50 oil, someone told me that is too thick??

in winter that oil would be too thick, try changing to a 5w30 oil and see if noise is gone(hopefully the damage isn't allready done)

a moments silence for the shelbyx,i hope her new owner enjoys as much.

You should be using 5w30 oil not 5w50 and if you have a noise around the head check your spark plugs before one blows out of the head causing you grief also check your exhaust manifolds for broken studs as well

The exhaust studs are prone to breaking causing a leak

Seems to be the norm for rear studs to break.... mine included.... Such a PIA to do I keep telling myself "next month", and so far its been 5 months, lol.

LMAO, I gotta do this job too, It starts with a trip to the beer store and ends
with me waking on the couch at 4:30am in a pile of my own drool. I think I should wait and get the beer after. LOL.
