power mirror problems 98 f150 4.6l xlt 4x4

Having some weird power mirror problems, when I try to adjust the mirrors they seem to have a mind of their own. They go in almost every direction but the one I want. Anyone run across this?

I had that starting to happen a little so when I was in the wreckers I grabbed a power mirror switch seemed to take care of it

I see that this thread is old but I have the same problem, but only on the right side of my 02 f250 super duty. Was it the switch that was the problem or the mirror part that moves to adjust the the mirror? While I'm asking is there an easy way to get the glass off of the mechanizm or does the whole unit have to come off of the door?

..

Try resetting the mirror itself. Set the motors at extremes like out and down then push the mirror in at the bottom right corner to almost bottom out on the back. then adjust the mirror to suit using power. Worked great on the F550.

Thanks for the reply, I was trying that yesterday before I posted. I used the power to push it to the extremes & I also pushed it by hand to the extremes and no luck either way. What happens is it wont come "IN" it will go up & out & down but when I try to raise it up & in it will go other directions? IT will only come in when it goes to the lowest bottom left corner & won't go directly up from there but up & to the right when I want it up & to the left. I have 3 hairs left & I want to keep them.
