they are all trucks..

can't say for a 4.2..
but my 4.6 got anywhere from 15-20mpg
same as my 5.4..
just the 5.4 would eat more when on the pedal.. but you would go more!

I have the 4.6 in my 2000 xlt s-cab 4x4 and i average about 17L /100km mix driving.
I have custom air intake and a flow master 50 serie.

Why are you scared to buy a diesel ? they last forever and have tons of power and torque, My dad has a 2000 f250 has the 7.3 power stroke in it with 300000 km on it and only thing that has been done to it is a thermostat purrs awesome.

All i can add is that my co worker has an 05 f150 and i have an 09 with the 4.6 litre.
We both have the same size tanks, and i get way better fuel mileage than him.

He gets around 600 to 650 per tank, as i get 900 to 1000 per tank.
