Pirelli Scorpion ATR cracking

I just had my winter tires put on my '10 Lariat. While I was cleaning up my stock rims to put them away for the winter I noticed cracking on the tire wall near the rim on the inward facing side. I checked the other 3 and they all have the same. I did a quick google and it seems to be a common occurrence. I didn't see it mentioned here but then again I'm working off my iPhone. Anyone else here had this problem? If you're unsure go stick your head under your truck and have a look! I called Ford and they said "its a common thing. The trucks on the lot have it, don't worry about it!" Gotta love that! Thanks for putting low quality crap on my truck!

yup..
got it.. had it since 20k on truck.
nope wont do anything..

said the tire basically has to blow.. it has to a certain depth of crack in order for them to start a warranty claim.

This is interesting.....A few weeks ago I sold some winter tires to a freind of mine .
He gave me the ATR's that were on his 2010 FX4 . They have approx 80000 km on them.
When I got home and took a close look at them and could not beleave how bad they are.
The cracking on the inner side walls is so bad they do not look safe to drive on. So I looked at the tire's from my truck Pirelli STR's and they are showing the same cracks
not as bad but those tire's have 50000 km on them. Has any body tried contacting
Pirelli directly for a comment or a reason for the premiture tire whare ?

80000 km on a set of tires is plenty IMO.

Mine only have 12000 km on them. Unacceptable in my opinion.

Yes 80000 km is plenty . However IMO a well maintained tire , rotated every
5000 (dealer serviced ) with proper air pressures should not whare this badly.
These tires are not cheap and we should demand better performance .

My dad had 2 sets of the ATR's on his 06' FX4 (both lasted 90,000km) and I think a couple of the tires in each set had signs of cracking near the end of their life. I don't know why Ford keeps using these tires if they are prone to cracking and their traction is brutal. My dad took the ATR's off his 11' FX4 the day he got it and swapped them for Goodyear Silent Armors and they are 1000 times better than the ATR's.
