Exhaust manifold heat shield

I have a 2010 with the 4.6L engine. The truck has 75000kms on it. I was ading wiper fluid into it yesterday and I found the heat shield from the passenger side exhaust manifold has rotted right off! I found it resting on the engine mounts. I get the truck Krowned every year and there is nothing unusual about the use. Has anyone else had this problem? What should I do about it?

Don't think Krown will do much for parts that see a lot of heat, like the exhaust manifold heat shields.

I've never had a problem with any of the heat shields "rotting off" on my F150's, but doesn't mean it can't happen I suppose.

Seeing as you're outside your warranty, (mileage wise), you've got a few choices.

Choice #1 - Do nothing. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to remove it from the engine mount though, just in case it decides to drop onto the road and bounce it's way from front to back as you're driving.

Choice #2 - Buy a new one and throw it on. I can't imagine heat shields are going to break the bank, but might be a pain in the ass to install.

Choice #3 - Depending on what sort of relationship you have with your dealer (if you have one) , drop by and ask them if they've seen much of the problem.

Who knows....maybe there's a TSB out there, or they might be willing to work toward a solution.

Doesn't cost anything to ask, but I don't think it's anything to get too worked up about.

Might still be covered under the powertrain warranty.

I don't believe known will touch it because of the heat. Your exhaust manifold would have burnt any known off that would have landed on it anyways.

Check rockauto.com

Maybe a aftermarket alternative is available.

I wasn't expecting any help from Krown. I only mentioned it.
I will take it to the dealer to see if they are willing to do anything. Mostly I was wondering if it something I need to bother fixing, seeing how the first one didn't stay on there very long.
