Steering Assembly

Hey guys, I was having some intermittent advancetrac system warnings coupled with signal light issues (only when the advancetrac warning light was on). I was also developing a bit of clunky feeling in the steering wheel going over bumps and stuff. To fix this, the dealer replaced my steering gear assembly last week and now steering at all speeds feels very stiff. It used to be pretty light (effortless) in parking lots and slow speeds and would stiffen up at highway speeds - which I think is how it's supposed to be. Now it's the same stiffness at all speeds. The part number on the work order for the new gear assembly is STE-53. When I looked the part up on fordparts.com it corresponds to the 2012 - 13 F150 and does not show up in the 2011 F150 steering components part list. It lists STE 40, 41, 46 and 47 for different 2011 models but not 53. This could be inaccuracy on the website. Anyway, I don't mind the stiff feel at all speeds, but I'm just wondering what it's actually supposed to be like. I'll check back with the dealer next week, but I am interested in your thoughts - particularly those of you who have the electric power assist (2011 and up I believe). It should be speed sensitive right? 2011 F150 Screw 5.0 157" wb 4X4

Hey - I get to answer my own post. Seems after a few days, the speed sensitive part is coming back so I think everything is good.

mine is pretty easy at slow speed. as for highway. it's still pretty effortless, as i don't move the wheel much.
