Rust Bubbles on Front Bumper

I was washing my truck the other day and I noticed there is some bubbling on the drivers side of the front bumper. It's probably about 1"x1". I am certain it's a rust bubble that just hasn't broken through the paint yet.

I have had the truck for just over 3 years now, but I have the full 6 year extended warranty.

I am not sure what I should be demanding/expecting from the dealer when I take it in soon. How should I approach this? Should I demand a new bumper as I have read other guys on the forum getting new bumpers for rust on theirs? I take good care of my truck so I am surprised that it is rusting already, and doing so from the back.

I should also mention that there are multiple smaller chips on it that have now rusted. They are quite small, about 1/8" perhaps.

Not much you can do about small chips, that's par for the course with the expected abuse the front end takes with bugs, stones and any other debris you hit.

As far as how to approach the dealer, I personally wouldn't be marching into the dealer and demanding anything, sets the wrong tone right out of the gate.

Start off by going in, showing them what you're seeing, and ask if the extended warranty will provide any coverage, or what they can do for you.

A lot is going to depend on your relationship with the dealer, and how you approach it. You may or may not have any luck, there have been numerous cases of each.

Post up some pics when you get a chance, and be sure to keep the updates coming, be interesting to see if the extended warranty does anything for you.

Good luck if you are taking it to Northstar in Fort McMurray.

I would personally go in before it breaks thru. So it doesn't look like a stone chip.

Some of us have got new bumpers with the chrome.

But if its due to a stone chip it wouldn't be covered.

Good luck.

Not sure how to upload an image here. . . . I'm just seeing 'insert image' and it wants an internet address.

And yes it's North Star Ford.

Maybe this will work. . .

I'm no paint and body guy, but looks like a chip to me, no wonder moisture got under the paint and rusted a bit, rain will do that.

Looks like normal wear and tear on the front end to me.

Like Travis has suggested, take it in and see what they say.

Get a trade in price while you're there and see what the Employee Pricing will do for you as well, could drop up to $16000 off MSRP, and rust problem solved !! lol

Yup.
Never have any problems with rust if you trade it in before it starts. Right Mike?!?! lol
