Wiring Third Brake Light on Canopy

I'm looking for any info on where to tap in to the wiring harness on my 2010 for a canopy 3rd brake light.I'm also going to wire up the dome light but was going to tie into the park lights for this.Any help would be appreciated.

i have the parts at home to do this myself. I looked into it about 8 months ago. and have yet to get to it. ha.
anyways, there is a wire under then hood that you attach to for the brake light.
and I think it was general consensus to run the one for the accessory light to the battery?
so you could use it at all times.
anyways. google is your friend, there is lotsa info out there.

What about the trailer wiring harness? You would still need to get power back for the dome light though

Again, resident Mad Scientist Travis would be the reply I'd be waiting on.

I seem to recall he did a sweet LED setup under the bed rails , so a canopy light and third brake light for a topper would be cake.

Wiring Third Brake Light on Canopy

Canopy light, just wire to trailer wiring. I'd pick up a 4 pin trail plug and wiring and install the connector so if you want to take it off you don't need to cut it.

As for the dome light.
I ran a fused power wire from the battery hooked it thru a pin switch, can use a magnetic switch. When it's closed it breaks the circuit. When the door is open the switch sends / allows power to a set of lights.

i think that the downfall of wiring it to the trailer wiring is that it will blink when you use the turn signal for whatever side it is wired to?
as the turn and brake lights are the same wire?
going on memory here and electrical is not my strong point.
there is a wire under the hood for the purpose of the brake light on a canopy.
if ford puts it in there, you know it must be for a reason.
FFS there isn't even a light under the hood or in the glove box anymore.......
the canopy also comes prewired with interior lights that you just need to hook up.
furthermore they also have a connector already attached to the lights similar to a four prong trailer wiring connector.
you just buy the other half from the cap dealer or it comes with the canopy when you buy it.

7 pin harness has separate wired brake and signal.

Good it has the harness.
But why would I want it on with parking lights? How about when I open the rear hatch? And only when I open the hatch?

I think you're making this more complicated than required.
There are two separate lights, one for the brake on the exterior and one for the interior light on the inside.
I don't believe I understand your comment about having the light on when the parking lights are on?
as I stated, it is usually done where the interior light is wired directly to the battery.
the light has a switch on it, I guess you could add a second one to automate it to come one when you open the tail gate or something.
I am simple simon when it comes to wiring, I will be using what's there and doing it the easy way.
some one with more experience can make it fancier.

After a couple of Google searches I found the best way to do this.

Ford leaves a green wire capped off in the engine bay above the drivers side wheel well for a third brake light. I tied into this one and ran another dedicated and fused wire from the battery to the canopy. It took a bit to run the two wires neatly but it was worth it and it works great.

If you were to tie into your trailer wiring you would end up with a flashing brake light on your canopy when the ts were put on.
