Towing with the 5.0

My wife wrote of my 08 Dodge so I decided to give Ford a try. I have a 2012 XLT with the 5.0, the main purpose for the truck is to tow my trailer which weights approx 6000 Lbs fully loaded. I am looking for feedback on how this truck tows with that kind of weight. I was reading on another forum about towing with this engine and he didn't have much good to say. My Dodge had the Hemi and it towed it no problem and it had 345 Hp and 375 Ft lbs torque. This 5.0 has 360 Hp and 380 Ft lbs torque which was the main reason I bought it. Is this guy full of crap? How do you guys find the 5.0 with towing? Unfortunately it has the 3.55 diff, does that make a big difference?

The 5.0L will tow your trailer no problem. The rest of the truck also plays into it. Tires, Wheel Base, Max Tow Package all that comes into play as well.

Its the extended cab and has the trailer tow package with the weight distributing hitch. According to the Ford towing guide, its good for 7800 Lbs. This guy was saying that he had to run it at 4000 Rpm in order to go 100kmph. My dodge with the OD off run right around the 2500 mark at 100 - 110 kmph. Thanks for the feedback puts my mind at ease.

Meh, it's the internet, you can say whatever you want.

My 5.0 gets 100 mpg, and can tow a 10 ton bulldozer at 100 km/hr, no trailer, all track. No shit.

Make sure you have a trailer brake controller.

Rear end will have some play.
As the lower the gears the lower the final drive rpm. Lower rpm means lower torque for cruising.

I seriously doubt 4000rpm was needed. Maybe he was driving up a hill the whole time with a head wind. Lol

It has the controller built in, I guess that's part of the towing package. Can't wait for camping season to try this thing out, Thanks for the replies, was just wondering how other ppl find how well the truck tows. I really like the truck so far, seems like it has tons of power and rides really nice. I am very happy with it so far.

So I got a chance to tow the trailer today and I must say that I am impressed. The towing power of this 5.0 is very good, Quite a bit better than my old 5.7 Hemi, it seems to have more torque lower in the RPM range, I was cruising in 5th at 105 kmph at about 2100 rpm no problem, the hemi needed to be at 2600-2800 rpm in order to pull the same way. I also love the manual shift and the integrated trailer brake controller and way it sounds when its pulling. I am glad I switched to Ford.
