less then 700kms and smoking

Bought a brand new f150 4x4 with 3.7. I was just on a long straight ramp to the hwy so I decided to get on the gas hard. When I hit 160 I looked back and all I could see was grey blue smoke. Is this normal for an engine that isn't broke in or could there be a deeper problem?

I know I wouldn't take a brand new engine up to 160km/h by just punching it. Is it smoking now?

No not smoking under normal load at all. And I haven't tried kicking it down again. I probably should not have done it but I couldn't resist seeing what it's got

I would't worry about it if its running fine and not smoking now. Get a few more K's on it. Kicking it down is fine but winding it out off the show room floor isn't going to lead to longevity.

Okay thanks! I kind of figured it has something to do with the seals not being completely seated yet. I hope I didn't do any permanent damage.. I gotta say though that 3.7 is a hard working little engine. On that same stretch I can barley hit 140kmh in my 09 fusion. And in my old 03 SVT focus I could only get to about 165kmh.

That's why you always take a demonstrator model out for a drive before buying, and conversely, that's why you never buy a demo.

I took out a demonstrator but I figured the salesman sitting beside me might frown upon a 0-160kmh test drive...

When I bought mine, I decided to see where the governor was. I hit 170 something. No smoke, no issues. Had around 200 km on it at the time. But I didnt punch it. Took a bit to get up to that speed . . .

Yeah I just stood on it from a dig and didn't let off till 160. Probably not my smartest move but it seems fine now and I checked the oil and it's fine also. Too late to take it back but at least now I know better.
