Next Raptor Spied

Next Ford Raptor spotted wearing aluminum skin

Quote:
Well, look at what we have here. Judging from these spy shots, Ford is indeed working on the next generation of its off-road-ready F-150 Raptor pickup truck. We've made no attempt to hide our appreciation for the Baja-style truck, which combines most of the usability of a fullsize truck with heavy-duty suspension components to make a kind of performance vehicle that is unique in the market.

What we haven't known, until now, is whether Ford would push forward with its Raptor program now that it has a completely new F-150 to serve as its base. And that's especially true since Ford made the bold move of switching the bodywork of its best-seller from tried-and-true steel to aluminum. As you can see above, the front and rear of this silver truck are clad in current-gen Raptor bodywork, while the center section that houses the occupants appears to come from the upcoming 2015 F-150.

Dissecting the views above, we note a few interesting tidbits. First, there looks to be a bulge in the truck's hood. Second, we see a new grille between the current Raptor's headlights, sporting a mesh finish and two horizontal bars. Lastly, our eyes can't help but lock in on those burly A-arm suspension pieces down below, not to mention all that ground clearance the specialty suspenders bring to the table.

These spy shots don't answer a few lingering questions: how much of the next-gen Ford Raptor will be made from aluminum, how far would a several-hundred-pound reduction in weight stretch the truck's already class-leading off-road performance, and will Ford continue using naturally aspirated V8 engines or would it consider switching to a six-cylinder EcoBoost? While we continue to mull over these thoughts, feel free to join us in hoping and wishing that this new Raptor hits the market sooner rather than later.

Not the same without the 6.2L…..

Not one pic of it jumping or off road though, I guess they're not beating the hell out it the way they're supposed to.

I think the truck in the pic was a 2015 and they are just test fitting the fenders and box.
So merely panel testing vehicle. IMHO

There is something wrong with the from suspension. It's def low I think. Or the back is way high.,

It kinda looks like they just changed the cab of the truck and left the front end, box, and everything else 2014 style.

Closer look time…..

Agreed, looks like a 2015 cab on a first gen Raptor chassis, the assembly is pretty sloppy if you look close, body lines don't match up , plus no HID's, which were standard for 2014.

Dual post elephant ears mirrors don't do much for the look either, might be a personal preference thing.

Interesting that the test mule has essentially all the emblems removed, none on the tailgate, and even the SVT centre caps on the wheels are not there. (only exception being the SVT moulded into the front fender heat extractor vents)

Be interesting to see where this goes, I still maintain 2014 might be the last year for a while.

I suggest gettin' while the gettin's good.

And they didn't even do the current elephant ears. Looks like the ones from early 2000's superdutys. Defenetly something not quite right about it thats for sure.

It's a very early test mule. Let's give them some time to do the job

I'm betting you won't see a 2015 Raptor.

I'm no expert , but if they're testing mules at this stage, when 2015 production is going to start in August or so, no way it will be ready to go.

Add to that the disappearance of the 6.2L, if they got it going on, they're doing a good job of keeping it under cover.

I'd say 2016 at the earliest.
