Anybody Done the Navigation Upgrade??

I have a 2010 with the old maps.I want to buy the discs from Ford and do the upgrade, but I wanted to find out if anyone else has done this.

How much better are the maps?Did you do it yourself or get the dealer to do it?

Haven't done the upgrade, but I can tell you the new Nav system info is merely an SD memory card (like you would put in your digital camera) that plugs in a port located inside the console.

The old system in my 2009 was an actual hard drive, which has been eliminated from the lineup, which is probably why the Nav option went from a $2300 package to $800.

Couldn't tell you if the maps are better or worse, both my wife and I have used it on occasion, but it's probably the newer revision.

I prefer to have the dealer install upgrades like that, so that if anything goes sideways, it's tough to put responsibility on me when it was Ford software installed by Ford techs..

Much like a lot of other things, comes down to your personal preference.

The Nav update is on a DVD it is supposed to be simple install in CD slot and let it download and your good to go. I have never done it but will soon because it is starting to get bad without the updates.

We just bought the latest upgrade, version 7. Came from an outfit called "Here". 2 DVD's, $149.00 USD.
We have a 2010 FX4. Maps are old and outdated. We have traveled all across western canada and the western US states. We rely on the navigation system. It's a great system. Very accurate and reliable.
Going to install upgrade on Friday.

I bought a new map, a couple of weeks ago. The 2002 one was a little outdated.

Are you lot talking about the latest incarnation of recall 12A04?

If so then it really isn't that big of a deal. Sync gets reprogrammed to accept pairing with the latest and greatest devices, and for customers with navigation then the maps get updated. If your nav SD card reads A3 or A4 then it can be reprogrammed along with the Sync update. SD cards A1 and A2 (if they still exist) are not upgradeable and get replaced with a new A4 card.

I have no idea how much updated coverage comes on the new maps.

I line these up over the lunch hour and have at 'er. I pull out a few USB keys and giv'er. They pay a paltry 0.3 and take near an hour to complete, but they are decent to do while I munch on a sandwich.

2010 didn't have the SD Card. They use the Nav CD.

Goes to show how often I have addressed nav concerns on the older trucks ...
