Eco Boost 3.5 V6 - Worth the wait?

I have been shopping around for the F150 and for my purposes I can easily live with the 4.6 V8 engine. I will tow a boat and possibly a small holiday trailer so I would rather trade the better fuel economy for around town than power of the 5.4.

My question is, would it be better to wait for the Eco boost 3.5 L V6 turbo engine coming out within the year? Early reports have fuel consumption reduced by 15 to 20% and horsepower at 355 hp. This would be a great fit for my purposes.

My only other concern is that there are some good deals going on now and the new engine would most likely command a higher market price.

Thoughts?

I'd say wait, even with a v6 in a f150 now you'll have enough power to pull a trailer or a boat, Alpine pulls a small tent trailer around no problem he just maxes out at 110 km but his truck almost has 300 k on it too, If you want good fuel economy i'd say wait

Eco Boost

I feel the wait may be worth it, but I recalled that you never want to buy the 1st year of a new motor or model until it has been tried.

This would then put me 2 years down the road for a new vehicle.

Tough call.

Welcome to FordTough

I have a 2009 Lincoln MKS FWD. My Sticker was a tad over $55,000 with the 3.7 V6.

A 2010 with the same options as mine and the EccoBoost engine comes to $65,000. $2000 out of that are for AWD which I do not have and a few of the options have increased in price which is about another $1500

So that leaves about $6500 for the Engine choice. For the average driver that is about 3-4 years of the cost of gas. The fuel savings are not enough to offset the extra cost to me, unless you keep the vehicle for a long time.

I have always lived by the saying "there's no replacement for displacement" when choosing a vehicle
