2010 F-150 XLT engine issues.... :-(

Hey all!

I reciently purchased a 2010 F-150 XLT Supercab 4x4 with the 5.4 triton engine... and its already beginning to act up.

Between about 700-1000 RPM, and under a light load (such as pushing up against a curb) the engine starts to "clack or knock" (sorry for the bad description of the noise, but its the best I can think of! ha ha!) It only seems to do it when the engine is brought up to normal operating tempratures, and only in that RPM range (or atleast thats all I can seem to hear so far!).

I've watched videos and read stories of the dreaded cam phasers causing grief in older model F-150's, it doesn't sound nearly as bad as those trucks did, but its definately noticeable! And I thought that Ford had fixed that issue? (I'm not much of a gearhead, so I apologize if I'm wrong!)

Anyways I hope no one else has had this problem, but if you have, or have heard of someone with a 09-10 F-150 5.4 that's had this problem, I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can offer!

I'm a Ford fan to the end! (I've owned a 2006 F-150 4.6, a 2008 Ford Focus, and now onto the 2010 F-150 XLT 5.4) But it bugs a guy to no end when your brand new truck is starting to sound odd! I'm hoping its an easy fix!

Anyways thanks everyone for taking the time to read this!

Ha ha! Yeah its booked in for monday! I am just hoping to get some info from all of the Ford owners in here who've experienced this (or hopefully haven't!), just so if I drop it off and I get the "its normal" song and dance from the dealership! But thanks for the words of encouragement!

How many kms are on your truck ?? I have a 2010 f150 with the 5.4 with 4500 km and I haven't heard a tic on this motor. Also keep us posted to what you find out.

Hey sorry! I completely forgot to mention that! It has approx 2400km on it. I'm not complaining about the normal injector sounds of engine at idle, its a V-8 truck, I dont expect it to run quiet like an electric car, ha ha! But its a distinct sound that sounds like a "knock" if you put the truck in gear, step on the brakes, and lightly push the gas bringing the RPM up to between 700-1000 you'll hear it (on mine anyways!). I'm glad yours is quiet, thats the way it should be! But yeah I'll definately keep you guys posted on what I find out! But anyone who has had experience with this, your help would be greatly appreciated!

Oh and I just discovered that it makes the same clacking/knocking sound while the truck is in motion, right around 1000 RPM.... I think I'm going to cry! lol

Be thankful you haven't had the issue happen to you my dad did with his 2010 Explorer Sporttrac, at 450km his explorer started to chug and lost power so he pulled off the road put it in park and it died, tried to start it and no power anywhere so it got flat bedded to the dealer and comes to find out a valve let loose dropped into the piston and screwed the motor. 3 days later he got the truck back with a new motor in it covered by FORD.

Well I took it in monday... and go figure.... they couldn't replicate it, or they couldn't find a fault.... So today I brought it back in, and took the service manager out to show him, and presto! He admitted that noise isn't supposed to be there! lol! Anyways it goes in thursday again, so hopefully I'll have some results by then!
