2010 SCREW XTR or FX4, what to buy?????

Background: based in T.O. but drive north every weekend for approx. 800 km round trip. I want good gas mileage & don't tow at this time but want to be ready for hard work garlic farming.

First I built and made a deal for a SCREW XTR at the dealer with: 5.4L, 3.55 LS, sync, trailer tow, trailer brake, defrost, power seat, reverse sensing, skid plates. Considering adding trailer tow mirrors (that I dont like the look of). I don't take care of my vehilces so chrome will never be cared for.

I now realize an FX4 has many of my option standard, I like it's tow mirrors and the lack of chrome. For a little bit more I can have more luxury and a heavier duty truck. BUT I am very concerned about MPG with a 3.73 rear end.

I need your input to make the correct decision for my needs.

PS: I hit a bear Friday night with my Passat wagon - did $6K in damage & the bear limped away!

My old truck an 02 4x4, 4.6L, 3.55LS was no easier on gas than my 2010 4x4 5.4, 3.73LS. The bigest difference is in towing. Night and day. 4200rpm (4.6) vs 2000rpm (5.4) at 100Kph = big gas savings with new truck. I use slip on tow mirrors as I need to fold the mirrors to make room for a motorcycle in the garage.

Don't worry about the 3.73 vs 3.55 for gas mileage, the new 6 speed transmissions in the new trucks make a huge difference for mpg and towing.....

I would worry too much about a MPG difference between the 3.73 and 3.55 rear end. Personally I'd take the FX4 just because of its styling.

I have a 2010 FX4 and considered both. The interior is very different, the FX4 has the flow through console, shifter is on the floor and the center console is different. I am getting 16L/Km when I'm not towing anything.
