Oil change

Gonna pick up my new truck next week.
Not sure yet when i am gonna do my first oil change. Probably take it to the dealer for that one because of the nightmares i hear about gettin teh oil filter off.
anyways...for the guys that do their own oil changes, what oil are you using?
lotsa threads about it on other f150 forums but hte vast majority is from america where more oils seem to be available more readily at better prices.
5.4L engine.
thanks.

5W20, semi synthetic (or full synthetic if you have money to burn, LOL)...believe it or not, the dealer prices on the oil and filter are VERY hard to beat if you price around. They offer oil change specials all the time, and for $40 and change (what my dealer charges for the complete oil change), and considering the 5.4L uses almost 7 litres of oil.... I couldn't change it myself for that price! LOL FWIW, I did my first change at 2000km (just to get the break in crap out.....). I know Ford says 8k for the first change is fine.....but, its a "piece of mind" thing. I find it interesting that motorcycle manufacturers recommend the first oil change at 600km and the second one at 1500km, then you can move up to 3k intervals..... they acknowledge that a motor will get the oil "dirty" while it is breaking in..... I don't see a difference in my cars and trucks (albeit, that little 600cc race bike motor is redlining at 17,000rpms rather than 5500 LOL)

yeah i was aware that it is 5w20 semisynthetic.
i may have to price it out at the dealers i guess.
i just read all the american boards, and they talk about gettin motorcraft oil and wix filters at wallyworld for $20 or whatever.
wondered if any one had the insight to a similar situation in canada.
i am not fond of dealing with teh dealerships. or havent been in the past.
been a few years, maybe thigns have changed.
yeah i was thinking around 2 or 3000 km for first oil change.
would you also place a time limit on it?
if 2000 kms takes two months?
thanks.

Time is just as important as distance traveled when talking maintenance intervals... I wouldn't sweat 2 months at all..... I would never go past 6 months though (regardless of mileage)....that is the general "rule of thumb" with oil changes 8k or 6 months, whichever comes first.

i know that six months/however many kms in general but i was specifically talking about first oil change. probably do it at 2000 kms but htat may not occur until four months. you see no problem with this?

i did my first oilchange at 4000km then 8000 using 5w20,then at 16,000 switched to full synth 5w20 in winter/5w40 in summer,67000 km no problems.

a moments silence for the shelbyx,i hope her new owner enjoys as much.

i'm not debating the oil change interval, or the grade of oil to use.
i was curious about best prices/locations for semi synthetic 5w20.
then we got talking about first oil change and i brought up the question of time limit for first oil change.
thanks.

On a related topic...I'll be using Full-Synthetic 0W-20. According to "Bob is the Oil Guy" (Google it if you're not already a member), that will give better start-up protection, especially in cold weather, while still maintaining warranty requirements. I'm lucky enough to live right at the border, so WalMart USA always has Mobil1 for almost nothing. I'll also buy MotoMaster filters at Autozone.
