truck died suddenly while going down the road like someone turned the key off.

Was driving down the road and my truck just died suddenly like someone shut the key off. got power to positive side of coil but none to negative side of coil. checked power at pin 8 of wire from distributor and no power so the stator or pip doesn't seem to have power. would this be a bad pip sensor.

Have a look at the ignition switch. While I haven't had this problem, apparently they can be a problem. Did you test the ignition coil with reference to ground? Specifically the negative terminal.

well i was testing for the injectors pulsing today and the truck started right up. changed the cap and rotor on truck 3 or 4 days before and cranked truck over and wouldn't start then left truck for a few days and was check coil positive and negative yesterday and negative side had no power when truck turned on and when cranking. not sure what would make my truck start all of a sudden today. i tried a to start it 7 or 8 different times today and truck started everytime.

check both the positive and negative wires going to the coil for as long as you can trace them. My 96 died on me going down the road one day, had her towed home. Checked for spark and had none. So I went to swap out the coil and when I pulled the connector out saw that the negative wire had broken about 3 inches up from the plug. Spliced and soldered new wire in and she was good as new
