New Project.

Havent really posted here in a long while... been dealing with some life issues haven't really had time for the Ford/vehicle scene.

But I have been keeping en eye open for a 70's F-series truck.

Picked up this 78 F100 yesterday

Needs a lot of work but I like the old school... Now the hunt for parts lol

Don't sweat not posting Todd, theres more important things going in life on sometimes, internet forums ain't one of those things.

Besides, you haven't missed much, its been pretty dead around here.

Nice looking project truck , love the look, theres some real potential there, guy at work has a built up '77 called Thunder Truck, he's a casual member here.

Dug up one of the pics he posted, just for inspiration....

What have you got planned? Going original or modded to your liking?

801A - 6550 lb bundle of joy

cool truck ive seen it around I think back in the old FTW days.... long long time ago lol

Planned is a resto mod... crown vic front suspension swap drop the ass end down to match, haven't decided on a driveline set up yet... its got a 302 in it now... im debating bigblock or a newer set up a 4.6 or if I could swing it a coyote 5.0 swap. Not much change to the body might shave the big side mirrors find the smaller hangdown ones from the drip edge... and might fill the stake pockets on the bed... roof lights will be going aswell.

need to find a short box for it, it was a stepside truck. debating fixing the cab or finding a replacement it needs a bunch of work might be better option to get a southern cab

sold a 1970 F100 to a good friend, he had been bugging me for years, he used the 2wd F100 frame and put complete driveline out of 2009 CV PI into it including front crossmember and suspension.

have some pics of his progress, he should be driving it by mid August if all goes to plan, will try and talk him into driving or trailering it to Arthur this year. it sure sits low with the CV suspension.

yours looks like a shorty frame...........much cooler look in a shortened truck in my opinion.

cheers James

yeah it seems to be the new trend with these 2wd trucks.... more and more guys are finding out the secret that a 03-2011 crown vic front suspension is almost a drop in swap.... its some work to get it in but its like it was made to fit between the frame rails... it also works for the 67-72 trucks... ive got a buddy whos just starting his project asell on a 67 reg cab longbox... he's cutting the frame to make it a shorty though..

he's not the guy selling the dream beams on kijiji is he ? if I didn't know of this swap id be interested...
I see your adds still up for parts trucks no bites on any of it yet ?

I think im officially looking for a cab this one is savable but the cost and hours put into welding it up its just worth looking for a rust free or almost rust free cab... guy in the states (Kentucky) claims he can get rust free cabs for $500 will see lol

the challenging part with the swap is the backspacing for rims that's needed and the aftermarket doesn't have much im reading... but its easier to just convert the rear over to disc and the smaller bolt pattern in the 9"

The 9" I was told was a 4/11 posi unit but we will see when I get around to pulling it apart... its only a 28spline though

Definatly interested now in the 79 you have, when works for a looksee ? lol it woud just be a parts truck for me as id plan to use the shorty frame

stock half ton 302 front springs and a 460 gets it pretty low

proportionally correct wheel placement in the wheel well too

if you like the old americain raceing equipement (ARE) torque throust wheels you might wanna go to the www.fourseasonstire.com site

look for american eagle alloy 211 wheels
they come polished rim / polished center or polished rim with dark or as cast centers

center caps moiunt with 5 allen head screws
you can replace the eagle alloy caps with ones that say shelby if you can find them on ebay cheep like I did

these wheels will even come with my 01's 5 on 135 bolt pattern so your 5 on 5 is easy

the wheels were used on newer shelby mustangs Idono what year but that's the reason for the shelby center caps

I paid 3 bucks and change for each cap - I still need to get the wheels though

cash is tight and life kinda sucks lol
