If I recall correctly, I used a short piece of hose with a bolt clamped in it.

But what's the deal with this, you suck from one tank and it returns to the other? WTF unless something is not working right

if you are sucking from one tank and its returning to the other your dual tank switch if fooshnicken.

should be able to run with one tank removed as long as you have your switch on the remaining tank.

That year should have dual fuel pumps. So, if one tank pumps into the other than you have a bad fuel pump(s). Or screwed up connections.

OK Hummmm. Both pumps work fine. And when you said switch, you mean the switch on the dash, or is there a switch / junction on the inside frame rail.

Older trucks used to have a tank switching solenoid valve on the frame rail. This was controlled by a switch on the dash. Yours has two fuel pumps. One in each tank. The fuel return line is controlled by a valve inside the fuel pump housing which is operated by pressure from the fuel pump. If the pump is on and working the valve is open allowing fuel to return. Of course, if the pump is off or not working the valve will not open and fuel is blocked from returning. In case anyone is wondering, I had to change my front pump and I was curious, so, I opened up the old one to see how it worked.
