sliding rear window question

I would like to add a sliding rear window to my '78 F150 and have noticed that the same window appears to fit a large range of model years (looks like '73 to mid'80's and maybe even mid'90's) but some have a bright aluminum frame and some are black.

Can anyone tell me which is correct for '78?

tks,

Dave

Hi--I am not an expert on these but I have a 1977 and a 1979 Ford truck with the factory sliding rear windows. They both have the bright aluminum frames on them. I don't recall if Ford ever had one with a black finish for the 1973-79 years.

I have not had any luck finding weather stripping for the windows in my trucks. I can't find replacement weather stripping that goes in the sliding part of the window frames--they all seem to rot out. If anyone knows where to find it I would like to know.

I believe that I saw the rubber window gaskets available from LMC Truck in their catalogue recently (but cannot locate the catalogue now). I think they even sell the mylar (flexible chrome plastic) insert which went in some of the rubbers (Ranger and up models).

This is a part which is likely to be reproduced because the rear window could not be replaced without replacing the gasket (the old gasket has to be cut to remove the rear window).

Garage
JC Whitney is another good place for for door/window seals. I bought all mine there when I restored my '80. Very good prices and free shipping too.

Thanks, guys - it apears that the factory sliding rear window did have a bright aluminum frame (similar to that on the factory cap).

I assume that the black ones which I have seen are aftermarket units.

If anyone knows of a factory sliding rear window for sale please let me know.

tks,

Dave
