Our new F-150 Ranger XLT Supercab

This is my first post here. Looks like a good place to start. Just picked up a 1980 F-150 Ranger XLT Supercab for $500. A rare find here in Labrador. My son and I gave it a good scrubbing and she looks great. All original paint and trim. No rust and hardly any dents or scratches. Shined up real nice. She's running rather rough with what sounds like a vacuum leak back near the brake booster (probably from all that leaking brake fluid). The booster and Master Cylinder is going to cost $275 plus tax, unless someone here can direct to somewhere cheaper in Canada that will ship. Air filter is filthy, carb gummed up quite bad and valve cover gaskets leaking. It'll take some work to get it in better working order. I love how easy everything is to get to. Replaced the plugs and she's running much smoother.
Got a few parts on order already- 2 front shocks, an ignition coil, valve cover gaskets, cap and rotor, air filter, pcv valve. That'll do for a weekend or two. Definitely will check into getting the carb rebuilt. Not a lot of mechanics here that work on carbs. Going to get her up to specs for inspection and then will get her into the shop for some things I can't do myself.

What a gem. Great shape. Looks like a little work and it'll be ready for Barrett-Jackson (LOL). I just sold my '80 and a ton of parts for it too. I'm gonna miss the old truck...had it for twenty years. I hope you keep yours for many years too. Good find.

That thing is in amazing shape. I sold my 1982 straight six about 7 years ago and it's still running to this day.

I regret selling it.

Great buy!!

There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.

Nice.

Have you tried rockauto.com ?
I recently got some parts that were more then 50% less then local.
I've got a discount code to save you a couple bucks also.

Sounds like you got a fantastic deal on a really nice looking truck.
Good to see an older classic like that in such good shape. You'll have it 100% in no time.

If Princess Auto were a real girl, I'd ask her to marry me.
