Air conditioning

I need some help here WRT my 2010 Ranger.

The ac compressor cycles on and off in every selection except Off, feet only, and dash only. That is to say that during all of the other selections the compressor runs or cycles on and off.

I realise with some vehicles, they are designed to have the ac compressor cycle even when ac itself is not selected, but I'm not sure about this one.

Unfortunately the Owners Manual is of little use. Ford couldn't tell me how the system is supposed to work. They could only tell me there is nothing wrong with the way mine is working.

What say you?

Cheers!

I have an 06 and the clutch on my ac compressor always cycles on and off regardless of which selection I have it set at.

My 2010 works the same as yours. A/C is off only in vent and floor mode. That's the way its supposed to be although I'd like to be able to shut it off in other modes too.

I think many Ford models work like this. I believe the reason is to keep the seals in the AC system lubricated, keeping them from going hard and causing subsequent refrigerant leaks and premature AC failure. The refrigerant has lubricant and seal-conditioning properties.

If Princess Auto were a real girl, I'd ask her to marry me.
