Ranger Mechanics - West GTA?

Hey Folks,

I'm on the hunt for a used Ranger 4x4. Seems like I waited a little long as there don't appear to be a ton on the market right now.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone could recommend a reputable and honest Ranger mechanic in the west end of Toronto/Etobicoke? I'll need someone to have a quick peek whatever I end up test driving and ultimately build a relationship for ongoing maintenance and repairs.

Thanks.

What year/type of Ranger are you looking for? I've got a 2007 Level II for sale!

Not too particular really, I haven't done a ton of research between years and models. Looking for a smaller truck that's good in the city but still able to haul a load into the bush on a real bad dirt road. The Rangers seem to be a good reliable and effecient bet across the board. Theoretically something in the mid 2000's that still has lots of life. I guess under 150,000km. What are you looking to get for yours?

I was looking at this one:

My only concern is the mileage. Think 199k/km is too much? Not really to sure what the life of a typical Ranger is, it seems like 300k/km is a fair expectation. But I understand it ultimately depends on how well it was taken care of...

That seems pretty high for an '07 but like you said, it all depends on how to vehicle was maintained. If you go see it, take a good look at those tires as it looks like they're cracking between the tread.

That's really cheap for a 2007 4x4....Level 2 is even better (no Level 2 graphics?). It would probably be double the price here in BC. Definitely have it inspected thoroughly by a qualified mechanic. Also, get a report (Carproof) for any accidents. Personally, I would budget for a set of new tires too.

This one looks really clean. http://www.carpages.ca/used/2003/For...Ontario/942890

Another clean looking one. http://www.carpages.ca/used/2008/For...Ontario/915924

One more. http://www.carpages.ca/used/2006/For...Ontario/946944

I still cannot get over how much cheaper vehicles are in Ontario....vs. BC. 2007+ models have TPMS....PITA.

Thanks for the links David, will check them out!

I did the drive out to BC (all the way to Toffino) two summers back, seems everything is a little more expensive out there. I guess it's a premium for the awesomeness of BC. As far as vehicles go they probably hold their value out there a little more because of less salt on the roads etc. At least in the Vancouver area.

Hoping I can find a trustworthy mechanic out here that specializes in Ford/Rangers. When I do find something I'd like to be able to get a second opinion on it first. Stupid question, but what's the process for that? Just tell the dealer I'd like to have it checked out by my mechanic before purchasing?

Looks like a decent checklist on how to buy a used vehicle:

Personally, I don't like putting down a down payment...if you have to, put down a small amount in case you need to walk away (getting that deposit could be difficult). Don't ever give the dealer your credit card info...especially for a deposit.

It has 200K on it. Price sounds about right to me. Beyond a certain mileage, things get more dicey in a used vehicle. The price reflects that. It might need a lot of new everything, not just tires.

Or maybe someone died in it and they can't get the smell out?
