If you want a small 4x4 truck, then really the only options now are Nissan Frontier or Toyota Tacoma. That sucks because for what you'd pay for one of those, you can pretty much get a full-size F150.

Or you could try to import a non-North American Ford Ranger or Mazda BT50. Good luck with that.

If Princess Auto were a real girl, I'd ask her to marry me.

Depends a lot on what he's looking for in a truck really, and what manufacturer he's partial to.

I say go FX4 with the 6.2L and 3.73's, or Raptor......screw the mileage.

But then again, I'm biased.

There are still a few new 2011 Ford Rangers around. The only equivalent in size is the GMC/Chevy Canyon/Colorado. Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma (new styling) are bigger than the Ranger/GMC/Chevy twins.

As mentioned you will pay as much for compact as you will for a fullsize. That having been said and working Toyota dealership, if I we're trade I'd be looking at a Tacoma V-6 Manual. Love to step down to a 4cyl but need 5K lbs of towing capacity.
