4.0L with bad miss...

So, I'm cleaning up a 2003 Ranger with the 4.0L motor. Got the brakes all done...f'n nightmare with seized adjusters! But then I went and cleaned the motor and now it has a bad miss. (Not sure if it was there before) Hit the throttle while in park, and when it hits 3000rpm, it just misses like it hit the rev limiter! Did I mess this thing up by cleaning the motor? Any help to get this thing running better so the kid can drive it 1000 miles to where he lives. Thanks in advance.

Andy

Sprayed it with Super Clean Degreaser (NAPA) and used water hose lightly to rinse it after a few minutes. Stuff does work good...gotta say. I just wished I had tried running the motor up before I cleaned it, to know if I messed up or not. Just bought the truck and haven't really driven it all.

Something interesting I just found on another site. These trucks have a 3000 rpm limiter for reving when in neutral/park??? Sounds retarded to me, but we all know how auto engineers work their magic. So I will have to wait a couple of days to see if this is true. Can't drive it till I get new lug nuts...45 miles away! Sometimes, I hate where I live. I'll post back either way.

Probably got something wet. Dry it off and try it again. 3000 rpm rev limits aren't uncommon. It's to prevent catastophic failure.

Well...the motor does have a rev limiter when in park. Took it for a spin today and it runs perfectly. Put it in park and it only hits 3000rpm.

Who woulda thunk? Oh well, learned something new I guess!
