Thumbs down how to stop engine from revving.

Hi, I've a 1989 2.3l ranger with a manual transmission, distributerless ignition, and fuel injectors. When I come to a stop the engine revs up for about 20 seconds or so and then idles down to a more bearable level (but still too high). It'll also rev up between shifts. I've checked my Haynes manual and I can't find anything in there that relates to my problem. I listened closely to the engine and I couldn't hear any air leaks. If anyone has any suggestions, I'll surely try them out. Thanks

if I were lookin at a front wheel drive mopar I'd say off hand either idle speed control motor or speed sensor

but your really just chaseing your tail without a way to read fault codes stored in your trucks computer

That could be normal. my 95 2.3 did the same thing. Apparantly its the computer's way of acting like a dashpot on a carbed engine. Its supposed to keep the truck from stalling.
