High Mileage Maintenance

As the title suggests, my 2009 Ranger is about a week away from rolling the 300,000 mark.

I looked over my maintenance records last weekend, and discovered that I've really only had three "repairs" which I think is pretty good for what's on the clock. That being said, it's been well maintained over its life, so I think I can comfortably expect another year or two out of it which should put me close to 400,000.

I'm going to discuss it with the service manager, but based on your experience what (if any) special items should I be considering at this mileage? With the exception of the mid 100K period the transmission has been serviced every 50K which is due again. Plugs, differential and transfer case services were all done not long ago. I'm thinking probably coolant service, but other than that I think it's up to date, unless of course I'm overlooking something. Oh yeah, it's a 4.0L 4WD auto truck.

Differential oil change often gets overlooked, especially the front one. Brake fluid is another one.

Rotate the tires? Power steering flush? Check that all the lights are working? Not being a smart-ass. You wouldn't believe how many people do everything but check the lights.

Man, that's a lot of seat time to hit 300k in five some odd years, nice.

The lack of any major issues is a good example of how effective routine maintenance and care is to ensuring trouble free motoring.

Ford Tough indeed, congrats !

- transfer case fluid change
- fuel injector cleaning (can check long-term fuel trim to see if needed)

Well, I looked through my records and the differential and transfer case fluids were changed about 60,000 kms ago, so I went with a transmission service, coolant flush and oil change.

I might discuss a brake fluid flush with them at my next service.... Thanks for the info guys.
