99 Ranger - Cold Start, Low Oil Pressure

I've noticed lately when it's cold out in the morning and I start my truck there is really low oil pressure. The needle is on the L. I will clean off the windshield and it's fine when I get back in. The other morning it was way low so I shut it off and started it back up and it was fine right in the middle. Anyone know whats up? It's a 4L also.

Chad:what kind of oil are you useing?in the winter i use a 5w20 semi synth in my 02 4l ranger, the oil gauges in these trucks are a go/no go type gauge they don't realy read the actual pressure incrementaly.

a moments silence for the shelbyx,i hope her new owner enjoys as much.

Today it was quite a bit warmer, and it was fine right from start up. It seems like it's only when it's -10 out and for the first 3 or 4 minutes when I start it. Think it's anything to worry about? Everything sounds fine and I've even noticed the guage shot right up half way and went right back down yesterday when it happened.

I'd be willing to bet its your oil pressure sensor for the guage. Its a dummy guage, it only reads on or off, thats why you never see it anywhere in between. I had to do one on my old b3000 (2001 model) because it did the same thing, if you TRULY have low oil pressure there is a warning buzzer as well.

Get a new sensor, 40 bux at napa, and you are set.
