Good cheap mods:

Torsion twist (search it)
Upsize your tires (265/75 should fit with a small lift)
Have you got good skidplates underneath?
Custom bumpers as mentioned

Beyond that it's all about how much you want to spend and hard you want to go...

Just some dude from BC...

ya well with the newer tuck the torsion bar twist will work unlike my tuck and that would give you a 2 inch lift dont go more than 3inch it will f#@k up your half shafts but my torsion bar twist never worked it was all the same so i think the never trucks should work then alittle lift in the rear and newer or bigger tires and you can go off roading but i always went off roading in my that was stock when i got my truck

Upgrade tires, lift, depending how serious of offroading you plan on lockers, skid plates or even a solid axle swap there are so many possibilites.

All depends on your budget. Cheapest way is to crank the torsion bars with either blocks, an add a leaf or shackels in the rear, then you can get bigger tires. You can also do a body lift, alot of people don't like them but I have never heard of a reason for not likeing them. I had one on an 02 150 I had and it wheeled awsome.

Then your gonna want skid plates and either custom bumpers and or a winch. Then maybe some lockers but you should be able to get by without them.

Or you can do a solid axle swap which is alot more expensive and labor intensive. But if you want to do some extreme wheeling this is the best route.

Best advice I can give about wheeling is DO NOT GO ALONE.
