Blend Door Actuator for 08 ranger

I had no heat in my truck all of a sudden so took back to where I bought it new and they tell me I need a Blend Door Actuator and that the part is back ordered at least a month. The warranty ended 4000 clicks ago and they will not help with that. It will cost over 600 bucks once the part arrives. The worst part is its coming on winter! going to check the wreckers. not a happy girl here out west in victoria

Maybe this might help?

I'd just bypass it so that the heat's on full time, and either turn the fan off or keep it on defrost with the heat low if you need it at all. That way you can save up for a bit rather than suddenly dumping $600 into a broken part just before Cmas.

If you're ever over in the Valley at all, I run a shop here on the side in Langley that I work for beer I even share it too lol. Just an offer. LR

LR's idea sounds good. Just figure out a way to temporarily jam the damper door.

I just remembered from helping a friend with a Jeep a few years ago, that had a similar problem, coming across this website. Check out the videos for Ford and Mazda. They explain it very well.

He didn't end up actually using this method, but it looks like the way to go.

The $600 estimate sounds like they want to pull your whole dashboard out, to get at the heater plenum and replace the broken damper door. From what I saw in the above videos, simply replacing the actuator motor shouldn't require that much work, and actually seems pretty straightforward. So that's why I'm thinking it's actually the damper door, and not the actuator they're talking about. You might want to get them to clarify their estimate.

I'd be more inclined to go with the HeaterTreater method, as it replaces the plastic damper door with a metal piece, which won't break again in the future. And you don't have to take your entire dashboard out. He also gives a method of testing your actuator motor with a 9V battery, so you'll know for sure if you actually need one.

Good luck.

If Princess Auto were a real girl, I'd ask her to marry me.

A replacement is also available through Dorman as well.
