Running boards vs rock guard

I'm thinking of removing my running boards to gain the increased clearance. Thought I'd just sell them and then rock guard my rocker panels. Anyone have any experience doing this themselves? Guessing it's just a matter of taping, doing a quick sand and then finding a good quality rockguard. Anyone have any recommendations?

I wouldn't, but thats just me. How much clearance are you really going to gain by taking them off and how often would you use it?

I put some of the self spray stuff on my '10 and within a year it wa flaking off. Would definitely get it done professionally if was me do I again.

Try getting in / out of the truck without using the side steps. Not as easy as you'd think. Especially once you are used to them.

I've been looking at the Lund Rock Rails. They look pretty sharp, offer protection and are modular to mount steps if you wanted.

Old thread, but I like the Amp power steps since it won't affect ground clearance.
