Why Ford..Why

So i go to change my fuel filter again..2nd time in 70,000kms. The owner's manual calls for a 986B..so that's what i get. Guess what..the bitch don't fit. The pipes off each end of the filter are too small, the fuel lines are sloppy on the filter and leak like a seive..I look at the old filter and it's a 1083 Ford #. Bigger tubing and bigger inside diameter of the tubing..After screwing around taking the old one off ( traveling a gravel road sure don't help) i put the old one back on and no more leaks...Any one else run into this prob? I read somewhere that Ford changed filters around 06 and too check which color clip is on the tank side of the filter..mine is a red clip..I can't understand why the 1st filter change went smoothly. The filter was bought at Crappy Tire..at least their book got it right...Rant over

They changed the fuel line size at the end of 05. My 06 has a late 05 build date and needs a fuel filter from an 05 not an 06. I found out the hard way ie. truck on ramps fuel filter removed and new filter didn't fit. I can't remember which year had bigger fuel lines, I think it was the 05

VMP and 5-Star tuned no more

It's all about participation, nicely done. Try some of the threads that haven't been dead for three years, there's plenty out there.

Too bad most of the people at the bottom of the box are long gone or the issue in the thread is long forgotten.
