Which F150 to buy?

Here is the plan at the moment, buy an F150 in May of 09 and then a 24-26' 5th wheel trailer when I retire 2.5 years later. I was considering going with a Supercrew but was told the short box won't work with a 5th wheel. Any thoughts on which version to go with and also which options to seriously look at?

I believe that a short box will work just fine with a 5th wheel , you just have to buy a slider hitch.(this is what I was told when looking at them)

I do know the 6.5 ft box is fine for a 5th wheel but you may be on the border line for weight with an F150 and the 26 footer.

Make sure you have the 373 gears for the F150 and the 5.4 engine of course.

If I was going to tow a 5th wheel I think I would want at least a F 250 Diesel, Dont get something and then wish you had the "OTHER TRUCK" you passed up

I purchased/ Leased 2006 XTR extcab sb and shocked at its payload capacity 26 foot no problem. BUT pulling is no problem,I think you got to look at breaking power. as well I would check laws in your area even tho 150 can do the Job. laws are changing to minumum 1 ton trucks for pulling tandem trailers. Remember Safety First,
BC there already exsists a law and herd its hitting AB.
so probably go cross Canada would hate to travel hit a province and get a fine.
Get min F-250 play it safe. My thought Good luck either way

Supercrew with 6.5 box will work just fine, upgrading to a F250 wouldn't be needed for that size trailer.

Thanks Tim, I didn't know the S/C had a choice of box sizes.

So it looks like a 5.4L S/C with the 6.5' box.

Late in the 2006 model run Ford offered the 6.5 box on the supercrews

This was my '04 with 5.5 box

I think If i was getting a New truck I would be tempted to get a F250 Harley Davidson Edition with a Diesel in it And lift it with 37's or 38's on it

If you plan on pulling a trailer, I would recommend going with a diesel, especially if you plan on going on long trips that include hauling the trailer up alot of hills. My dad has had a F250, F350 and now a Chevy silverado 2500 Turbo Diesel and he wouldn't go with anything less then a 250. Even the trailer dealership suggest going with something a little bigger then the 1/4 ton.
