Factory remote start

Have a 2004 SuperCrew FX4. With a little horse-trading, I wound up with a factory remote start from a 2005. I can get the guy who removed it to help me hook it up, but we're a little nervous...

To "minimize" expense, I'm considering the trick of taping the "smart" key under the dash, which we think should bypass the anti-theft. Then I can use a non-smart key when driving.

So I'm wondering if anybody has any experience or advice on this potential adventure. I've lived this long without, so its not a big deal, and I'm wondering if its worth the trouble (versus just buying an aftermarket unit for $150).

thanks in advance!

id have to see the schematics of the unit. but it should have (-) when running output. with that you can get a bypass. ~$50-60 bucks with that it will hook into or around the ignition. either simulating a key or data into the computer that will simulate the chip.

I have seen some chips get so cold they freeze and they don't energize when the ignition activates. (seen this when use the key coffin) put a ring around the ignition and a key in a box. the box grabs the signal and reproduces at the ignition cylinder.

Did ford offer a factory remote start option I have an 07 and if they did I would like to install it so I don't have to walk outside in the cold to start my truck every morning

The is a "ford" remote starter, but it is outsourced to another company to make. I believe it was "Code Alarm".
Code made it and rebranded the casing with a ford label.
They installed the same way as an aftermarket remote start did.

You got a key fob that didn't look factory but said ford on it.

From my experience with remote starters, factory remote starters aren't the greatest, even if someone else makes it like Code Alarm. My parents have an 05' Lariat that came with one of the "factory" starters and it was nothing but trouble. They replaced it with an aftermarket 2-way system and all the problems disappeared. Long story short, I'd get a aftermarket system before trying to make a "factory" one work.

I would just rather have the factory stuff I don't like having two key fobs or aftermarket fobs one remote that was designed to do it all a friend of mine bought a newer ram with the remote start and it worked amazing

^^^Any place that sells and installs remote starters/alarms can make it all go on one remote.

When you buy a aftermarket remote starter they come with a new key fob so you don't use the factory key fob, if installed right the new key fob will lock / unlock, start and also alarm the truck. Atleast the 1 I had installed on my 2000 did
