Power Door Locks

Having trouble with the power locks on my 2004 , sometimes they work from the remote, sometimes they don't. Sometimes it takes 4-6 pushes on the door switch to get the passenger side to unlock. I have tried to lube from the top but that dosen't seem to help. Anyone have any experience with them, do I need to change the whole door lock / striker mechanism, I had the driver side panel off and it looks like a complete unit ?

I had issues with the window switches. I removed the switches and took them apart and slid a finger nail file between the contacts and it cleaned off the carbon that was affecting the contact surfaces. I would imagine that the lock switch is the same.

If you take the key fob apart there is a contact disc that is dished. When you push the button it invert the small copper disc and completes the connection. Several times I had to "Re-profile" them (for lack of a better description). I did this by cradling the disc on my finger and gently pushed down in the centre of the disc with a ball point pen. Then I tried to re-introduce the dish with even pressure up on the perimeter. It is very easy to kink or fold the disc so you have to be very gentle.

Also check inside the rubber boot thing where all the wires go from the door to the Cab, both my door unlock wire, and window for ft passenger wire were broke. i had to do some splicing of wires to bypass the part that snapped.

It is part of the latching mechanism, WD40 is your best friend.

Would having my truck RustChecked every year cause oil / dust to build up on mechanism and be causing lock and switch problems ? Maybe I should pull door panels and clean them with wd40.

These stuck on my 97 Ranger. I just sprayed the lock mechanism and open and closed the door until it gets all lubed. Don't do any more work that is necessary. This is an easy fix for you.
