Clunk noise from gear shift

2008 Fx4 with console shift. When truck is in park, and you apply the brake there is a clunk noise from the gear stick.(not while shifting, just the initial brake application in order to shift it from park). Everything works fine, but its rather annoying. Any ideas???

It is the locking solenoid that is being released once the brake pedal is depressed.

So is this a sign that the solenoid is going?

I doubt it. Mine has always clunked pretty good. Its probably louder if you are sitting on any kind of a slope than on flat ground.

I have the FX2 that is equipped with the console shift. I will pay attention tomorrow with the radio off, and follow up.

Turn the subwoofer off and tighten the screws holding the park lock solinoid in place.
