Question ticking at low load

My 07 Lincoln Mark LT 5.4 is making a rattling/ticking noise at low load around 1200 rpm.Idling is fine, acceleration is fine and at a significant load is fine.
Some research tells me its cam phazers? If so what would it cost to get this done?

Start with the small. What oil Filter do you run?

If it's a Motorcraft filter than have your VCT Solenoids checked.

If they are good than it's the Cam Phasers and they are like $400 per side plus all the timing tensioners and arms and chains.

Have fun.

may also be fuel... had the older 2v 5.4 and if I ran prem it would tick like crazy under load or take off. ford said it was normal that it was compensating for the octane it didn't need....

Used Motorcraft filters up until the last year then Fram.
$$Ouch!
I use different octanes frequently depending on the program I have installed.

I've done more investigating. Was at the Ford dealership and was chatting with a tech.
I casually brought up the cam phasers. He said it is common and mentioned using oil filters other than Motorcraft is what Ford is saying is the cause because tiny pieces of filter element come off and will block certain oil galleries and starve the cam phasers of oil. This will give you low oil pressure situations as well.He seemed to think this was BS.I found out that possibly there are internal seals I believe for the cam chain tensioners that fail and have the same effect.
I am going to do another oil change, use a Motorcraft filter and synthetic oil.
I may even do another in a month or so and we will see what happens.
The tech said just drive it as is and it may never amount to anything or it could get worse. If it gets worse it's about $4-5k to get the repair done by Ford. Then said about $9k for a new engine.

Found a guy who will replace all.Phasers, guides, tensioners, lower sprocket and an inspection of the rest for under 3k.
With a 1 year 20,000 k warranty.
I may go for it.....
