Post Need a little feed back ...

Hi all ...
I am thinking about buying another truck to drive in the winters . The 99 I have now is on its lasts legs . I had a 2005 Lariat 5.4 4x4/w 250,000 km offered to me through an acquaintance / not a friend . The price is 6000.00 firm tested and certified . The seller is very up front about the trucks issues which is the only reason I am considering the 4x4 . There are what I think are a couple of small things . The power seat switch and the remote mirror switch are broken . I think these are minor and I can fix myself . The big issue is the front struts . He had an issue with cupping on the front tires and his mechanic told him the struts are weak and should be replaced in the near future . He said this is roughly an 800.00 repair . Does this sound right ? Any feed back or information on this or other issues with this or similar model years would be appreciated .

Thanks
Larry

Larry, that price for truck sounds fine. $800. for front struts sounds bit high but I imagine that includes spring and shock assembly. If just for winter beater go to CTC and get price from them or someone similar. Of course you will need wheel alignment after. I would say only other thing to look out for is cam phasers and tensioners. Make sure it has good oil pressure. 04 and 05's were bad for that. Cam phasers will be noisy and blown seals on chain tensioners will cause low oil pressure. I can't spell worth a damn but you get the idea!

Such is life. Just passing through.

The $800 sounds high for the struts.

I'd ask if it has had the plugs changed (I sure would hope so at 250k) or any issues related to the cam phasers or VCT solenoids.

There's a whole list of things you can do to it if you decide to buy it to shore up some reliability.
