P0622 - Battery Light On
I'm guessing my alternator is on its way out. Last night I noticed on my Edge the battery voltage was dropping down in the 11's while driving and would slowly creep back up to normal. This morning the truck started fine was running around 14.2 and it started dropping again and the battery light came on. Pulled the P0622 code - Generator Field Control Circuit Malfunction. Our mechanic here at work threw his tester on it and it was registering just above no charge in the "weak charge" zone. The truck also seems to be surging a bit in gear sometimes and the alternator seems to have a bit of a whine. I was going to poke around it tonight and make sure there wasn't anything obvious going on like a loose connection or corroded terminals. Hoping for something easier on the wallet but I've already got a Motorcraft alternator on order to be safe.

Checked all the connections, cleaned the battery terminals and regreased them with no change. Charged it overnight, unhooked it and didn't drive it yesterday to see if the battery was holding a charge and it is. Voltage hovers in the 11-11.5 range when I'm driving it. Getting a new alt on Saturday assuming it's the problem, $425 installed for a Motorcraft from Ford which I didn't think was that bad.

Not terrible at all, pretty reasonable with taxes and installation all in, plus OEM is always a bonus.
Out of sheer curiosity, does the battery tray have a temperature sensor in it?

It's fixed now. Alternator was producing zip for voltage. Ended up needing a tow truck ride to get it fixed, thank god for AMA.
All is good now.

Thought if it did, it may affect the field of the alternator. Anyway, all fixed. On your way.

That really sounds awkward. I do not really think that it is somthing really bad, however this is an issue that has to be fixed, for sure! This battery does not have a temperature sensor at all, so it is not the cause of this issue. It has to be a direct issue from the alternator. I have never had a similar issue, however I had kind of a different problem with the alternator. I do not really remember what was that. However even the guys at the repair shop could not fix it. So, I decided to call for the services of an electrician from the best and fastest electric works. They were actually able to fix it.
