4wd hi

So I have a question. During our recent little snowfall, when my truck was actually working(See other post) I engaged 4wd hi. I didn't really feel anything engage but the dash light flicked on & then off & stayed off.

What is the likely cause of the light not staying on?

It works when I start up as all dash lights do & engaging 4wd lo works properly, definite clunk & dash light visible

Thanks for any help

It could be an issue with the switch at the 4hi position. If 4lo engages that means the shift motor and hubs are working properly. I'd start at the switch.
