Thumbs down Drops twice before getting right gear

Is this normal? When I go to pass or Im merging onto a hwy. I step down on the gas pedal and it drops one gear and realizes its not enough and then drops again. It does it fairly quick but not quick enough. It really shouldnt do it at all
if you ask me but Im new to Ford trucks. I have 2006 XLT 5.4

All these 04-08 style seem to do this..the downshifting is less than ideal..A programmer will help with this.

Well you wouldn't want to ride in my 2010 f150 5.4 auto, it will drop 3 gears when i step on it to pass or get onto the highway, why complain would you rather lug the motor and not make speed up to pass ? The tranny should drop out of high gear to make power to pass. Someone on here will bash me for my comment but I don't friggin care.

Try this when passing...take it out of OD then go for it. Mine does it too.

it's likely designed to do that. it minimizes geartrain shock inside the transmission. the 2nd sprag takes a thrashing otherwise.
