TFT

Had to make a run to Whitehorse yesterday..890 km round trip...Outside temps on the way up were -23 to -37. TFT running around 155. Return trip outside temps were -30 to -40 and TFT was 170 when i got home. How the hell does the tranny run hotter when colder outside? In summer it don't get this hot unless 4x4ing in sand..

Well, obviously the truck was loaded down with your Christmas shopping on the way back from Whitehorse, and the return trip is uphill to Watson Lake.

If Princess Auto were a real girl, I'd ask her to marry me.

i would think that cruising at 75-80 mph, the cold wind would cool the tranny down...i'm stumped on it..There was never a problem with it, just curious why it would run hotter...The truck LOVED that cold/dense air.

Thats odd. My tranny temp never goes over 150 cruising at those speeds. It usually hovers around the high 140's no matter the outside temperature.

Just an ignorant shot in the dark, but is it possible road grime got packed around the tranny cooler? Trans. fluid level low?

Sorry about your g/f son. Not a big Christmas fan here, either.

That could be..i do alot of mudding during the fall, but i'm pretty good at giving it a good spray a few times a year..Never have checked to see if low fluid. There are no leaks on the ground or smell..but i will check. Maybe it's time for a change of ATF..58000 km on it now, but i don't tow.
