I had a '05 supercrew 5.5ft box, 4x4 with a 5.4 and then a '06 Supercrew 6.5ft box 2wd with a 4.6..
personally I felt the 4.6 leaves more to be desired. just not enough bottom end grunt.
'09 is a 5.4 !

lumberjack traded in his 5.4 supercab 2wd and has a 4.6 supercrew 4x4 now.. he wishes he had his 5.4 back.

I like my 4.6. Its goes fast enough for me. Sure it lacks a little bottom end, but it pulls pretty good above 3500rpm. I haven't towed with it much but I had about 2000 pounds of trailer and gear behind it last summer. Pulled it like it wasn't even there. Just gotta let that motor spin fast.

VMP and 5-Star tuned no more

Buy a hybrid my truck needs your gas

It has passed the test of time in all those crown vics, and mustangs out there that have taking quite a bit of a beating with many. It's the same 4.6L in many, many F 150's.
I think it's a good engine.Smooth, quiet, easy to maintain, sure it lacks bottom end,but that is nothing a gear change out back couldn't fix if you desired.

My first Ford was a '98 F150 XL with the 4.6L that was purchased as a lease return.

It had 68,000km on it when I got it, and I drove it another 100,000km on top of that with absolutely no issues other than routine oil changes and the expected changeout of plug wires at about 120,000km.

As viper238 said I do have a 2010 f150 super crew 4x4 with the 4.6, to me the motor could use a bit more power but for me it works oh k, as I don't tow anything and I don't off road it's just a d/d family ride OOOH don't ask me about fuel mileage either as I don't drive the truck easy when I do drive it, I walk to work so only gets drove on weekends
