Troubleshooting a weird coincidence

I have a fairly basic 2000 F350 Super Duty. Almost simultaneously the ABS light came on, the overdrive light on the shifter started to flash intermittently and the speedometer doesn't work under 45km/h. I have checked the usual things like connections but I am at a loss on this one. The truck seems to be running properly other than that.
Any ideas?

Doug

Garage
I can't remember which years, but I remember that if the third brake light is out, the trans can act funny.

I had same type of problem on an 08 F250 with o.d. light flashing sometimes but also had a problem where wouldn't shift into reverse sometimes. Felt like it went into neutral or stayed in park. Of course couldn't reproduce the problem when I took it in and was told it was all in my head. Two weeks later it cost them a trans and convertor. After that I still had to go in and get something replaced for the shifter in the column.

Such is life. Just passing through.

From another forum I frequent. The sensor on the rear diff seems a common culprit.

Figured I'd post this as I chased my tail for weeks now trying to figure it out.

Symptoms: ABS light, flashing O/D light, no cruise control, no speedometer and no odometer. ABS light flickered every so often then finally went to just on and no speedometer while driving down the road. Erratic speedometer accompanied by ABS light flicker.

Solution: Loose ground wire by the driver's side headlight. It caused all of the above symptoms.

Other possible solutions for you:
Rear speed sensor (ABS sensor) in the rear end housing (on top of it). Try to clean it first. Then replace after that.

Tone ring in rear end is worn and sensor not reading teeth correctly.

Fuse (can't remember which...) under the hood.

2001 F350 CC SWB 6spd....currently getting a complete 'makeover'. Stay tuned.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. It turns out that the culprit was the Vehicle Speed Sensor on the rear diff. It was a bit of a surprise when I found out that the rear end on my 2000 F350 is from a 98 F350. The sensor is replaced and it looks like things are back to semi-normal. Now all I have to do is try to figure out what wires are crossed which make the cruise light flash intermittently and the cruise control "on" button on the steering wheel blow the horn. All in time.
