It done blowed up!

While on my way back to the shop today, the boom truck did something I did not expect it to do. While this truck is repleat with failures, mostly engine, it decided to blow up its transfer case. This was something totally unexpected, considering, I just picked it up from its annual safety, today. First, I experienced a vibration not unlike a u-joint failing. So, as it got worse, I moved off to the side of the QEW. As I got on the shoulder, I heard a loud bang, followed by rattling. My questions are:

1. Which transfer case would this be?

2. What lubricant should be in it?

3. Does anyone near Burlington/Hamilton area have one?

3a. How much would you want for it?

3b. How much would you sacrifice it for?

3c. When and where can my boss come and get it?

4. Would you also happen to have the matching manual transmission?

The truck is 2004 F-550 Super Duty XLT with 6.0L diesel, 6 speed manual transmission, 2 speed manual shift transfer case with 8 bolt wheel pattern.

T-case is a NV271F and it's supposed to use Mercon III for fluid. Apparently some dealers will say use Mercon V but your not supposed to use it in t-case. You have to ask for transfer case fluid. Don't quite get the difference myself...Good luck with the truck repair.

From the smell of it, I'd say it was 80W90. Which would be the wrong stuff. Apparently, Dodge uses the same one and they break them a whole lot more. Maybe they don't use Mercon. That's 2 questions answered. Hoping for an answer to 3c.
